IUTOX is the voice of toxicology on the global stage; the organization which seeks to increase the knowledge base of toxicological issues facing humankind and to extend this knowledge to developing societies and nations. Founded in 1980, IUTOX now has over 50 affiliated societies representing all six continents and over 30,000 toxicologists from industry, academia and government as members; offering a diverse and challenging perspective on every issue and development relating to the profession.

With the support of our partners, IUTOX continues to expand the services and education we provide to scientists around the world; in particular, for scientists in developing and least developed countries. The hands-on training and education that IUTOX is able to provide to underserved junior and senior scientists brings them one step closer to accessing the cutting edge science they need to address their local problems.

IUTOX regrets to announce the passing of esteemed past Secretary-General James (Jim) E. Gibson on November 22, 2025. Throughout his career, Jim held numerous university affiliations, professional affiliations, honors, and advisory posts with professional, government, and industry organizations. His career spanned over 40 years, leaving a lasting impact on the toxicological sciences where he was a powerful voice for reason, scholarship, and excellence.

Jim was extremely active in community and professional activities, serving as Secretary-General of the International Union of Toxicology from 1986 to 1992 and President of the Society of Toxicology USA. Jim will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
