Speaker: Angela Slitt , PhD, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Rhode Island

Talk title: Impacts of Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substance (PFAS) withdrawal from use: Presence of Legacy and Emerging PFAS in Human Liver Specimens Banked in the United States from 2000 to 2024

Angela Slitt is a Professor and Chair of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Rhode Island. Her research program focuses on mechanistic toxicology, with a specific interest in mechanisms of distribution and excretion that PFAS bioaccumulation and toxicity and the impact of PFAS exposure on liver disease.

IUTOX are proud to present the 2026 programme of IUTOXtalks. IUTOX organises a session each year at the SOT Annual Meeting under the heading Global Collaboration Coffee, a panel discussion session addressing a topical issue or concern in toxicology. At SOT2026 the topic was “Persistent and Pervasive: Tackling PFAS Through Science and Policy—A Global Perspective”. The IUTOX Education Committee are pleased to announce a new series of 4 webinars, free for all participants, to take this important topic to a global audience.

IUTOXtalks will run in April, June, September, and November 2026 and each talk will have 2 speakers from the Global Coffee Collaboration presenting their view (20 minutes each) followed by discussion and a Q&A session with the audience.

Join us April 29, 2026 at 8:00AM EDT (14:00 CET) for the first of the 2026 webinars. Emanuela Corsini, PhD, Full Professor of Toxicology at the University of Milan “La Statale”, and Angela Slitt, PhD, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, will lead us in an introduction and overview of the topic.
