Speaker: Jonathan Urban, PhD, DABT,
Senior Managing Scientist, ToxStrategies, USA
Talk title: PFAS Toxicity Values: An Overview of the Current Values for use in Human Health Risk Assessment
Jon Urban is a PhD, Board-certified toxicologist with nearly 20-years' experience studying and evaluating the potential health hazards and risks from exposures to chemicals in the environment, foods, consumer products, and pharmaceuticals. As a Senior Managing Scientist with ToxStrategies LLC, he is part of a team that has worked with state and federal regulatory agencies as well as public and private stakeholders to develop methods and frameworks that support transparent, evidenced-based approaches to environmental and human health hazard and risk assessment. These efforts include the development and application of fit-for-purpose systematic review methods for chemical risk assessment, as well as frameworks for the evaluation and integration of data from new approach methods that may inform exposure response relationships for data-poor chemistries of concern.

Speaker: Kristin M. Eccles, PhD,
Research Scientist, Health Canada, Canada
Talk title: Translating PFAS Toxicity Across Species: Computational Approaches for Human-Relevant Risk Assessment
Dr. Kristin Eccles is an incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Ottawa and currently serves as a Research Scientist at Health Canada in the Exposure and Biomonitoring Division. Her research focuses on PFAS, environmental mixtures, and new approach methodologies (NAMs) for exposure and hazard assessment. She integrates exposure science, high-content phenotypic profiling, and computational toxicology to better understand how complex chemical mixtures interact with biological systems. Her work aims to advance functional exposomics and support more human-relevant approaches for evaluating environmental contaminants and population-level exposure risks.
IUTOX are proud to present the 2026 programme of IUTOXtalks. IUTOX organises a session each year at the SOT Annual Meeting under the heading Global Collaboration Coffee, a panel discussion session addressing a topical issue or concern in toxicology. At SOT2026 the topic was “Persistent and Pervasive: Tackling PFAS Through Science and Policy—A Global Perspective”. The IUTOX Education Committee are pleased to announce a new series of 4 webinars, free for all participants, to take this important topic to a global audience.
IUTOXtalks will run in April, June, September, and November 2026 and each talk will have 2 speakers from the Global Coffee Collaboration presenting their view (20 minutes each) followed by discussion and a Q&A session with the audience.
Join us June 24, 2026 at 9:00 AM EDT (15:00 CET) for the second of the 2026 webinars. Jon Urban, PhD, DABT, Senior Managing Scientist at ToxStrategies and Kristin Eccles, PhD, Research Scientist at Health Canada leading the Computational Toxicology Research group in the Exposure and Biomonitoring Division, will lead us in our next edition of IUTOXtalks.
